Healthy Teen Network seeks a part-time Communications Consultant, for 15-20 hours a week, who has a passion for and strong commitment to our mission and guiding principles. The Communications Consultant will support the organization’s Communications team, supporting deliverables across several projects, as well as the organization’s communications and marketing efforts. This individual will report to the Communications Manager.

This position is a fast-track hire. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through April 18, 2021.

This individual will facilitate the development, revision, and dissemination of all organizational email communications and marketing activities. These activities include the weekly Healthy Teen Network Egram, monthly Spotlight newsletter, email campaigns, and audience engagement and management. The Communications Consultant will prepare the Egram or Spotlight for review by the Communications Manager by the close of business Monday, each week. The Consultant will revise and send the Egram or Spotlight by the close of business Tuesday, each week. Additionally, this individual will support content marketing efforts to showcase Healthy Teen Network services and resources by writing and revising some blog posts and website content.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather, read, and curate content across many and diverse sources to filter content for the weekly Egram and monthly Spotlight
  • Summarize and synthesize content from these sources to curate content for the weekly Egram and monthly Spotlight
  • Write marketing copy for Healthy Teen Network services, resources, events, and annual national conference, for use in email marketing efforts, blog posts, and website content
  • Execute email marketing efforts using Mailchimp, including entering content, adhering to branding principles, making revisions and copy edits as appropriate, and finalizing and sending emails
  • Support building email templates from a visual builder
  • Support conducting A/B testing of email format and content to increase engagement
  • Support the management and expansion of email audience
  • Support the compilation of email marketing dissemination analytics to update and improve strategy
  • Support updating and maintaining organizational and project websites, using WordPress and Divi Visual Builder
  • Support evaluation of products, resources, and tools, and identify innovative approaches for improvement
  • Assist in ensuring that department project goals are met and all activities are completed according to work plans and guidelines
  • Complete additional duties, as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college, or equivalent combination of training and experience, preferred, in communications, marketing, technical writing, English, or related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated understanding of the importance of frequent, clear, and effective communication
  • Experience developing, revising, and disseminating email marking using platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Experience content editing using WordPress, preferred
  • Copyediting experience and strong proofreading skills, with the ability to follow a style guide
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and systems
  • Ability to work independently, and as a positive, proactive, and personable team player
  • Understanding of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, including teen pregnancy, HIV, sexually transmitted infection (STI), and issues related to young people who are pregnant/parenting, preferred


This position is a consultant. Hourly wage is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $16-20/hour, for 15-20 hours total/week.


The Healthy Teen Network headquarters is located in Baltimore, MD. Due to the global pandemic, employees and consultants are currently working remotely.
