Welcoming Julia, Our New Administrative Coordinator

We are excited to have Julia Atwood join our Operations & Finance Department!

Please join us in welcoming Julia Atwood to Healthy Teen Network!

Julia brings over a decade of administrative experience to her role as Administrative Coordinator, along with a deep well of creativity shaped by her background in the arts and entertainment industry. Known for her flexibility and creative problem-solving, Julia finds real purpose in supporting efforts—both big and small—that amplify social and reproductive justice, especially those that empower young people.

In her role at Healthy Teen Network, Julia provides administrative support to the Finance and Operations Department, including bookkeeping and expense processing. She also leads communication with speakers for Healthy Teen Network’s annual conference, helping ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for presenters across the network.

Before joining Healthy Teen Network, Julia worked as a grant writer and administrator at Notch Theatre Company and as an assistant to the Director of Talent at Tillman Global Holdings. She has supported several nonprofit organizations as a consultant, including providing grants management and administrative support for North Star Fund. Julia has also worked in academia as a Faculty Assistant to renowned poetry critic Helen Vendler in the Department of English at Harvard University. In addition, she serves on the Advisory Board of (X)Collective, a Chicago-based artist group focused on community engagement through theater.

Julia earned her Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Brown University/Trinity Rep and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Classics and Psychology from Wheaton College (Massachusetts), where she graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

Along with being deeply aligned with their mission and a desire to support this critical work, I wanted to be a part of the incredible community that is the Healthy Teen Network team.

Julia’s commitment to Healthy Teen Network’s mission is rooted in both values and community. “Along with being deeply aligned with their mission and a desire to support this critical work, I wanted to be a part of the incredible community that is the Healthy Teen Network team,” she shared. She added that witnessing “the passion, dedication, and expertise across each department has been nothing short of inspiring—not to mention the palpable joy, kindness, and humor woven throughout.” Julia shared that Healthy Teen Network’s “shining reputation in the field is extraordinary,” and that she’s “honored to join the team.”

Reflecting on her own sex education experience, Julia shared that she wishes she had learned about sex positivity. “My sex ed classes were primarily centered around reproductive anatomy, process, and prevention,” she said. “They felt intentionally clinical, with shame swirling throughout. There was never any discussion around sex for pleasure, full stop.” This perspective informs her belief in affirming, empowering education for young people.

As she begins her role, Julia is especially excited to learn more about the broader adolescent and sexual health field and our organization’s role in it. “I’m most looking forward to learning more about Healthy Teen Network’s network and community partners,” she shared.

I would ensure every young person had unrestricted access to the healthcare, educational materials, and safe, supportive spaces they needed to feel empowered, heard, and cared for.

If Julia had a magic wand to improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health outcomes, she’d focus on access and care. “I would ensure every young person had unrestricted access to the healthcare, educational materials, and safe, supportive spaces they needed to feel empowered, heard, and cared for.”

Outside of work, Julia is forever trying to balance her “city mouse/country mouse” tendencies. She loves a hike in the woods or a swim in the ocean just as much as catching a live show or exploring a new neighborhood. She also enjoys exploring the parks in her northern Manhattan neighborhood, seeing live music, cheering on her nieces at school plays and sports games, and rewatching episodes of Schitt’s Creek. No matter the setting, Julia says nothing beats laughing with her loved ones.

We’re so glad to welcome Julia to the Healthy Teen Network and look forward to the care, creativity, and joy she brings to her work. Welcome, Julia!
